April 2003 Newsletter

March 3, 2003 minutes

President Michele called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. with the following members present: Michele, Eldon, David, Vicki, Ana, Kari, Danny, Steve, and Crys. The February minutes were approved as stated in the newsletter. Vicki gave the treasurer's report.

Old Business:

T-Shirts- Eldon- chair: Eldon reported that one Humboldt, NE T-shirt was sold during the past month. He reminded everyone that orders were being taken for Humboldt Area Jaycee T-shirts, sweatshirts and polos. The cost is the following: T-shirts- $10, Sweatshirts- $13.50 and Polos- $13.50.

Insurance Policy- Eldon reported that insurance on the following projects would cost: Tractor Pull- $1,000 and Fireworks- $1,500. Vicki said that she would check out some other insurance companies and Eldon would check out to see if it would be possible to get fireworks insurance under his home policy. Very unlikely, but he would try anyway.

Pancake Feed- Michele- chair: Michele reported that the crowd was kind of slow for the Pancake Feed. There were only 31 people including Jaycees. Also helping with the event were Eldon and Kari.

Spaghetti Feed- Michele- chair Everyone was reminded that the Spaghetti Feed would be held on Thursday, March 27. Michele set 4:00 p.m. for setup and serving would be from 5-7 p.m.

Progressive Dinner: Final plans were made for the Progressive Dinner. The following people vounteered to be stops for the evening: Vicki, Ana, Terry, Crys and Eldon.

Tractor Pull- David- chair: Plans continued for the Tractor Pull. The date has been finalized for Friday, June 27th on the land behind Humboldt Specialty. It was discussed contacting Coke to see how their rates compare to Pepsi. Vicki said that she would be sending out letters to last year's sponsors and that the packets would be ready for us at the next meeting so that we can start getting donations. David said that he would check with the Northwest guys to see what kind of insurance that they provide for their pullers.

Car Show- Chris- chair: It was reported that the Jaycees were on the City Council agenda for Tuesday, March 4 to ask for permission to use the ballfield for the Car Show. The date set for this event is during the Fair on Saturday, September 13.

Renewals/New Members: Michele reported that we had two renewals last month, one age out, and four drops. Fortunately, we gained one new member this month, Danny DeJonge. Danny was present at the meeting and was welcomed to the Humboldt Area Jaycees.

New Business

Pitch, Hit & Run- Crys- chair: We set the date of Sunday, April 13 for the Pitch, Hit and Run Competition. This competition is for boys and girls ages 7-13 and will test their baseball skills. Setup will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the competition begins at 1:00 p.m. Crys volunteered to chair this event.

Trash Pickup: The Adopt-a-Highway Project is set for Sunday, May 4th at 1:00 p.m. We will meet at Fred Cash's farm, Michele's dad. We will then pickup trash for two miles south of town.

Scholarship Award: We decided to once again give a HTRS graduate a scholarship from the Humboldt Area Jaycees. The board will meet on Monday, May 5th at 6 p.m. before the monthly GMM to choose the lucky recipient.

Convention Report/Awards: Michele, Crys and Eldon briefly reported on Year End Convention which was held in Lincoln in February. Michele then presented 3rd Triad and Year End Awards to our members.

Soup Supper Benefit For Elnora Russell: It was decided by the group to help out with the Soup Supper Benefit for Eldon's mother, Elnora Russell. Eldon requested that the Jaycees help out by setting up tables and chairs for the event.

With no other business the Jaycee Creed was recited and the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
