August 2002 Newsletter

July 1, 2002 minutes

President David called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. with the following members present: David, Eldon, Michele, Matt, Steve, Kari, Terry, Crys, Sus and Aaron. The June minutes were approved as stated in the newsletter. Eldon gave the treasurer's report in Vicki's absense.

Old Business:

Tractor Pull/ATV Pull- David- chair: Final plans were made for the Tractor Pull and ATV Pull. We had to rent the lights this year since the lights we got for free last year were rented out during the July 4th weekend. Eldon and Michele reported that they lined up several volunteers to help out in the concession stand. Everything seemed to be pretty well set for the big weekend.

Moonlight Golf- Michele-chair: There were seven teams that signed up for the Moonlight Golf Tournament. Helping Michele run the event were Eldon, Vicki and Kevin. We had to purchase new balls and glowsticks this year so unfortunately the event lost $172.94. We have all of the supplies now so we should come out ahead next year.

July 4th Events: Final plans were made for the July 4th events: Mud Volleyball and Kid's Games. Sus reported that eight teams had signed up for Mud Volleyball. Crys said that everything was set for Kid's Games.

Fireworks Stand: Eldon- chair: Eldon reported that the sales in the Fireworks Stand this year were pretty slow, mostly because of no rain and he thought people were afraid to purchase fireworks. Opening up for Citywide Garage Sales on June 29 was pretty successful and he hoped that the Midnight Sale on July 3 would bring in a lot of business. The following people signed up for shifts in the stand: Michele, Vicki, Kari, Jodi, Sus, Crys, and Matt.

T-Shirts- Eldon said that he checked on prices at Stripes and Signs for Humboldt Jaycee T-shirts. We decided to make the decision at the next meeting on whether each member would pay for their own T-shirt or if the chapter would pay for them. Eldon's suggestion was that anyone who worked at the Tractor Pull would get a shirt for free, otherwise any new member in the future should work at least three projects before receiving a shirt. We will make the final decision on how to handle the shirts at the August meeting.

New Business

Chapter Visitation- Eldon and Michele have decided to start Chapter Visitation to other Jaycee chapters starting in August. Eldon said that he would provide the transportation if anyone is interested in going with them. The dates set for visitation are: Aug. 6 they will visit Auburn, Aug. 13 they will visit Falls City, and they will visit Nebraska City in either September or October. Eldon will contact each of these chapters to make sure that it is okay if they visit on these dates.

Jaycee Barbecue- The Jaycee Barbecue will be held at Aaron and Sus Stalder's house on Saturday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is requested to bring a sidedish for the evening and we will shoot off our leftover fireworks that evening.

Region Meeting- The Region meeting will be held in Humboldt on Saturday, August 24. All officers are requested to be at this meeting. Anyone interested in being a officer in the future is also asked to attend. The Region Meeting is a good way to meet and talk with people in other Jaycee chapters in our area. The meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be held at the Community Action Center. Eldon and Michele are taking care of the details. There will be a cookout following the meeting. We will be charging $3.00 for each person who attends the meeting, except for the state officers who are attending.

Thank-You's- Eldon read a thank-you note from Crystal Ellis for receiving our scholarship award and also a thank-you note from Melanie Stauffer for our donation we gave to her for her basketball camp in Hawaii.

With no other business, David adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
