December 2002 Newsletter

November 4, 2002 minutes

Eldon led the meeting in David's absense and called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. with the following members present: Eldon, Michele, Vicki, Crys, Ken, Natalie, Leah, Steve, and Ana. The October minutes were approved as stated in the newsletter. Vicki gave her treasurer's report.

Old Business:

Chili Feed- Michele- chair: Final plans were made for the Chili Feed to be held on Tuesday, October 15 during the HTRS Volleyball Triangular.

The Chili Feed profited $52.83. It was pointed out that this project was very well attended by our members. This is the kind of cooperation it takes to sponsor successful projects. Attending were: Michele, Eldon, Vicki, Crys, Terry, Ana, Kari, and Kevin. DD Brian Nichols was also in attendance as well as Auburn Jaycee Ann Brugger.

Humboldt, NE T-Shirts- Eldon- chair: Eldon reported that the T-shirt fundraiser sales were going pretty slow. He discussed if sales didn't take off, that we just order 24 shirts and sell them after we have them in stock. He figured the big time of the year that these shirts would sell would be during July 4th and the Fair. All members were reminded to turn in orders for the shirts by November 15.

Insurance Policy- Our insurance policy was discussed again. Eldon said he had contacted Ron Kostecka at the State Bank of Table Rock about insurance. He also wanted to contact a few other agencies. If we can't find any reasonable insurance, it will probably be best just to purchase insurance for individual projects

Kid's Games At Halloween Party- Eldon & Crys- co-chair: Eldon reported that the Kid's Games went very well at the Chamber Halloween Party. It was rained out but they came up with some good indoor games to play. David and Vicki helped with the project as well as the FCCLA girls. The kids enjoyed watching David, Eldon and Vicki compete in a sack race.

Bowling Fun Night- Eldon reported that everything was set for Bowling Fun Night in Seneca on Friday, November 8. Most of the members at the meeting said that they wouldn't be able to attend though. Eldon said he would try to invite people from other chapters to make it a bigger crowd for the evening. Another bowling night will be held sometime in January.

Chapter Visitation- Eldon reminded everyone that a meeting visitation was planned on Tuesday, November 5 at the Auburn Jaycees. He also wanted to visit Falls City and Nebraska City in the upcoming months. Eldon also attended chapter visitations at the Lincoln and Waverly Haunted Houses during a Haunted House Hop hosted by DD Brian Nichols. He said it was a really fun night and next year other members should try to take a night out and visit one or both of these haunted houses.

Bingo- Eldon briefly discussed Bingo again. He said that the fire department currently has all the Bingo equipment that the Legion use to use. We need to find out how much a license would cost to run Bingo. Bingo is a very big moneymaker and this is something we need to pursue. It's more realistic to say that this will begin next fall rather than this fall. It's a project that will need volunteerisim from all members.

Prospective New Members- We discussed a few names of Prospective New members for the Humboldt Jaycees. We are currently at ACS, 30, but that's no reason to stop recruiting. Recruiting is something that we should always be doing. If anyone needs our brochures to help with recruiting, contact Eldon.

New Business

Snowman Contest/Snow Volleyball- Eldon and Vicki both want to play in the snow this winter, so they discussed fun projects that could be held in either January or February. Eldon suggested a Snowman Contest for the kids and Vicki thought a Snowball Volleyball Tournament would be fun. So far these are just suggestions for winter fun. More will be discussed at the next meeting.

Fruit Basket For Nursing Home/Housing- Vicki-chair: We decided to donate a fruit basket to Colonial Acres Nursing Home and to the Housing for the Christmas season. Vicki volunteered to purchase the fruit baskets and to deliver them.

Christmas Cookies- We also decided to give the residents at the Housing Christmas Cookies again this year. Each member that is interested in helping with this project is requested to donate 1-2 dozen cookies and to bring them to the Christmas Party on December 8.

Christmas Party- Eldon- chair: Eldon volunteered to host the Christmas Party at his home on Sunday, December 8. Eldon said he would make Mexican Manicotti and everyone else is requested to bring food to add to the party. We will also be exchanging gifts. Everyone is requested to bring a gift to exchange (valued at no more than $5.00). Guys buy for guys and the ladies buy for ladies. We will draw names as usual for the exchange. Our monthly meeting will also be held at the party. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. Eldon's address is: 128 Park Ave. Just look for the yard with all of the Christmas lights in it.

Officer Elections- The following members were elected to lead the Humboldt Area Jaycees in the year 2003: President- Michele Veltrop; Management VP- Michele Veltrop; Membership VP- Sus Stalder; Secretary- Eldon Russell; Treasurer- Vicki Behrends; Directors- Crys Lippold, Dennis Ball, and Aaron Stalder. These officers will take over starting in January.

With no other business, the Jaycee Creed was recited and the meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Eldon D. Russell 2002
