In Memory Of
Jay Snethen

December 11, 1962-March 31, 2003
Jay was the OYF Candidate in 1999. Jay exemplified what farming was all about: being a great steward of God's gift of land and giving back to his community. Jay is pictured above on the Snethen farm.

Jay was a man filled with dreams and ideas and the drive and determination (and just enough stubborness) to make them happen. Jay inspired the many lives he touched with his go-for-it attitude. He was always willing to go the extra mile to see that things got done. Whether at work or play he gave others that extra push to do the same. Although work, organizations and friends were very important to Jay most important to him was his family. I believe everyone should be lucky enough to have a Jay Snethen in their lives. I along with many others feel it's an honor and a privilege to be able to say...."I knew him".

Crys Lippold

Jay always believed in having a good time. He and Kris are pictured above as two of the costume winners in the 1996 Humboldt Area Jaycees Costume Contest. Jay showed up as a "One Night Stand".

Jay was one of the people in this organization that alway motivated us to excel and to go that extra mile. He always encouraged us not only to make an impact on the chapter and community, but also make an individual impact. I know my life is better for knowing Jay. I remember the first meeting I attended, Jay was the first person who came up to me afterwards and wanted to get to know me. The first event I worked on was with Jay: Tractor Pull Concessions. Believe me you get to know someone after working with them for 12 hours. From that moment on, Jay always encouraged me to leave my "comfort zone" and to try new things. Even after Jay was no longer active in the Jaycees, the first thing he would always ask me when I saw him was "How are things going in the Jaycees?" His heart was always with the Jaycees and for our community and he was always there for advice when I needed it.

There are so many memories of Jay that have come back since his passing. There's the hard work we put into running the Tractor Pull Concession stand, the Nebraska football party, Christmas parties (remember the condom koozie), July 4th social, spaghetti feeds, and many others. A lot of good times held in the Jaycees.

Jay, I will always remember the motivation and encouragement that you gave me and remember the things that you taught me. There will always be a little piece of you in the Jaycees because of the huge impact that you made on all of us. Your life may have been cheated in quantity, but you made up for it in quality. Till we meet again my friend.
